Bard On The Beach: The Taming Of the Shrew.

Kathryn and I went to “Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival’s” performance of Shakespeare’s romantic romp, "The Taming of the Shrew." This is a play that shines a comic spotlight on the pleasures and perils of the search for the perfect mate. A thoroughly entertaining evening, especially if you you happen to be out on a date, on a lovely Vancouver evening, with your perfect mate!

Kelp-Aholics Anonymous - Northwest Dive News June 2012!

We were away in the Philippines much of June and I only now just learned that Northwest Dive News Magazine published our story, "Kelp-Aholics Anonymous" in their June 2012 issue! An editorial piece about the joys of diving in Kelp Forests, not snorting it. ;) Also, snagged the magazine's cover shot!

Here's a link to the online edition of the story: Kelp-Aholics Anonymous

"The Diving Britnell's!"

Our good friend, Stewart Sy, posted this image on FACEBOOK of Kathryn and I beneath the dive skiff in Cebu, Philippines. His tagline, "The 2nd best Husband and Wife diving team I know... ;-) — Stewart Sy. To which, I replied, "Self portrait??" ;)

"Time? Who has Time!?"

We have a story about Campbell River's Discovery Passage in the summer issue of Kenmore Air's HARBORS Magazine at the printers. AROUND THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST magazine will also be publishing one of our diving in Alaska stories in their next issue!

Look Mom, No Hands!

My lovely and talented wife took this picture of me during a safety stop in Anilao, Philippines. I have a home-made float attached to my camera housing that allows it to hang next to me. I'm using this image on my Facebook Timeline.

Coleman Shrimp & Toxic Fire Urchins.

Somewhat rare, Coleman shrimp are normally found in pairs on the toxic fire sea urchin. The female is the larger of the two, Coleman shrimp move amongst the poisonous spines with impunity. They were named after the late, great, Australian diving legend, Neville Coleman.

The blue/white tips of this toxic fire urchin's (Asthenosoma varium) spines are filled with a venom that can cause a very painful and long-lasting sting. It inhabits the tropical Indo-Pacific region and can reach 25 centimetres in diameter. Some claim it is similar to a great electric shock followed by an excruciating burn. My wife, Kathryn, can speak to as she got stung by a fire urchin on her thigh by one of these urchins last week while I was photographing the one pictured here in Anilao, Philippines. The 10 or so spines that broke off under her skin are slowly working their way out. Despite the the urchin wound, It did not prevent her from diving or enjoying rum infused mango shakes apres dives.

Philippines Trip June 2012!

We just returned home today from a 19 day diving adventure in the Philippines. In the coming weeks, I will post some underwater images we took while diving with the Turtle Bay Resort in Cebu, The whale sharks at Oslob, and some images we gathered while diving with Solana Dive Resort at Anilao.

My lovely wife also celebrated her birthday diving in Anilao.
Not only an awesome wife, but Kathryn also proved herself to be a highly competent, low maintenance, underwater model / diver and budding underwater photographer. Thanks, baby! Life with you is amaze-balls!!

"Shining Through" - Philippine Airlines.

Thank You!!!, Philippine Airlines for the two free upgrades to Business Class for our flight home between Manila and Vancouver today. Kathryn said the smoked duck and lobster salad was divine...as was the wine...the Grand Marnier...cheese plate with Artisan breads...etc!
